Resolution 02-1
The Heresy of Harold Camping WHEREAS Harold Camping, founder, president, and the voice of Family Radio, has announced that the church age has come to an end and that "the church as a corporate institution has no spiritual authority", and is now advising believers who are members of a local church to "withdraw their membership and fellowship on Sundays with whomever there may be who are of like mind", and
WHEREAS Mr. Camping has written: "No longer are you to be under the spiritual rulership of the church… We must remove ourselves from the church…. The church has ceased to be an institution or divine organism to serve God," and
WHEREAS he further instructs local churches to "reorganize their congregation, to become a fellowship of believers."
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the American Council of Christian Churches, meeting in its 61st Annual Convention, in Monett, MO, October 22-24, 2002, hereby warns Christians of this dangerous and false teaching. We go on record as saying that this is heresy. The Scriptures clearly tell us that the universal and local church will endure "throughout all ages" (Ephesians 3:21), and that "the gates of hell shall not prevail against it" (Matt. 16:18).
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of the Body of Christ emphatically reject this dangerous and heretical teaching of Harold Camping. We further issue a warning regarding this cancerous teaching and call upon true Bible-believing Christians to withdraw support from Family Stations Incorporated and to beware of its effect upon all of the programming of Family Radio.
